Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster is suing Kanye West‘s former friend and collaborator Malik Yusef for allegedly forging the rapper’s signature on several contracts and faking several invoices from various companies, including Roc Nation, in a multi-million-dollar scam.
Gentle Monster claims in their suit, which was filed Thursday in L.A. County Superior Court, that Yusef leveraged his friendship with West to promise the brand A-list talent to promote their eyewear in a video series.
“From their earliest interactions with Gentle Monster, defendants went out of their way to describe Yusef’s star-studded connections,” writes attorney Susan Leader of Akin Gump in the complaint (via The Hollywood Reporter). “They never missed an opportunity to mention that Yusef routinely works with artists like Beyoncé and Kanye, that he tours with Jay–Z, or that he vacations with Pharrell Williams.”
